This is the first release based on the source in the git repository. For obvious reasons,
there is no longer an SVN revision in the version number. The game data is now included in
each package, so you no longer need to download two files.

Textures and Graphics / Re: SpaceEngine
« Last post by grumplstink on 2016-06-10 09:40:19 »
:) SpaceEngine is a surprisingly good piece of software I also came across it while looking for something else!
Amazing amount of information is displayed on screen as you shoot through the universe or land on planets and explore. The Planets and space sky textures are fantastic and there are extra downloads for specific planets in much greater detail but extra detail means, very large files eg. 700mb to around 5Gb, per planet, may be downloaded, fantastic!
One can edit : Planets, Systems and Textures and make Cylindrical or Cubical Skyboxes and export as, png, tga, dds, tif, jpg. Ready sliced for six sided cubes and easily loaded into other game engines. Unity is one I tried for a quick test, worked seamlessly (make sure when in Unity every  one of the six textures is set to 'clamp' and not the Unity default method 'Repeat') or you'll most likely get seams in your skybox.
Try it it's free and fun...  ;)

Textures and Graphics / SpaceEngine

I stumbled upon a skybox tutorial for a different game, which pointed to a program called SpaceEngine.

I didn't have time yet to install and explore it, but this tool seems to have some interesting capabilities,
like saving skyboxes.

Check it out and share your experiences!

News / Migrating to git
« Last post by Ingar on 2016-03-04 21:59:21 »
We're in the process of migrating the source code and game data repositories from subversion to git. The GitLab application is located at http://git.osirion.org.

Update: all repositories have been converted and the website menu now has a link to the GitLab application.

Lounge Bar / Re: Post Your Specs
« Last post by Ingar on 2015-09-15 21:19:33 »

Tower:      Corsair Graphite series 230T (orange)

I bought a new video card recently:

Mobo:        ASUS P8Z68-V PRO
CPU:         Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.30GHz
Mem:         16Gb Corsair DDR3 @ 1600Mhz (OC)
GPU:         nVidia GeForce GTX 970
Sound Card:  onboard nVidia GM204
Speakers:    JVC UX-V100
Tower:       CoolerMaster Centurion 534
Keyboard:    Logitech Illuminated Keyboard
Mouse:       Logitech M105 + Steelseries surface
Monitor:     iiyama ProLite E2473HDS

A few interesting notes:

- The 2500K still performs reasonably well,
- It seems all my Samsung hardware mysteriously dies after 3 years of use. iiyama makes better monitors anyway.
- I switched to cheap mice after using expensive gaming mice for many years. They last much longer, for a fraction of the price.
- Server is still the same as in 2011, although I replaced the videocard with a fanless GeForce GT 610.
- Both the desktop and the server have a Scythe Mugen cooler. I love those heatsinks

Discussion / Re: Factions and Reputation
« Last post by Ingar on 2015-02-09 18:39:38 »
The current development version gives the player the option to join as pirate or militia. This will just copy the faction reputation to the player reputation. If you join the pirates, militia NPCs will recognize you as such and attack on sight.

The problem is, other players won't see you as such. Obviously, a pirate player should see a militia player as enemy, but that doesn't happen yet.
The good thing is, you can still blow each other to kingdom come.
